Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Psychotherapist?

A psychotherapist is a compassionate and trained mental health professional who offers supportive therapy to individuals, couples, or groups facing emotional, psychological, or behavioral challenges. Through a variety of gentle and effective techniques, they help clients explore their feelings, enhance relationships, and build valuable coping strategies.

What Happens in a therapy/counselling session?

In a counseling session, our focus will be on sharing and exploring your experiences and challenges. Sessions typically last 50 mins, and take place at the same time every week or every two weeks.

Together, we will gently challenge some of your thoughts, feelings, or assumptions, allowing for deeper understanding and insight. You will never be pressured to discuss anything that feels uncomfortable, and we will navigate our sessions at a pace and in a direction that suits you best.

How do I know if counselling is right for me?

There are numerous reasons to consider seeing a counsellor. You might be dealing with a specific challenge like anxiety, depression, or stress. Alternatively, you might simply feel unfulfilled, unhappy, or as if something is holding you back from living the life you desire. In either case, talking to a professional can help you understand your feelings and discover effective ways to cope with them.

How long will I need to see a counsellor?

There isn’t a specific number of therapy sessions required; it can be either time-limited or open-ended based on your individual needs. This decision is entirely dependent on your situation. Since no two clients or issues are the same, the duration of your counseling will depend on your experiences and your goals.

We recommend committing to at least six sessions to observe meaningful improvements.

Can I work with you if I am on medication for an existing mental health condition?

Yes, typically, talk therapy is beneficial for individuals on medication for mental health conditions. The therapy process helps support creating strategies for effective and sustainable change.

In your initial consultation, we will discuss any existing mental health conditions and whether Qissati Counselling is the appropriate service for you. Your well-being is always our top priority.
